David Phillips
what I've done:
- I've brought significant capability to a number of companies who hired me as a developer, then put me in charge of the development team once they saw how quickly I grasped the problem and motivated people.
- I've performed research in dolphin communication and worked as a dolphin trainer.
- I've developed realtime systems for ocean floor surveying, and lived at sea for months at a time while using them.
- I've written a ton of C, Perl and PHP — and a lot of that under some pretty serious pressure.
what I'm up to:
- I'm developing in-flight networking systems at a company in Pike Place.
- I'm exploring the world of
digital photography.
if you're planning on sending me email:
I run Apple OS X, so my computer is generally more resistant to viruses and worms than certain other operating systems. That said, I'm very security-conscious, plus I've been through my share of attachments that require some obscure one-off utility to be read. Here are some things to think about:
- If I can read a message or attachment with the programs I already have, I'll take a look. Otherwise, you're likely requiring me to get software I don't really want, to read content I'm not sure I care about. If it can't be read by a standard email reader, a web browser, iWork, Acrobat or PhotoShop, I probably won't read it.
- Please consider before sending me megabytes of images without first warning me. It takes time, and may prevent me from getting to other messages from other people. In short, it isn't very considerate. If you have pictures you want me to look at, think about sending me a URL where I can go look if I choose — that's what the web is for.
